Palm Beach Atlantic University

Foodesign Associates had the opportunity to be part of a team that completed a fast-trackdesign-build project for Palm Beach Atlantic University, West Palm Beach, FL, in time to welcome students as they returned for the Fall 2020 semester. With just four weeks for
preconstruction and nine weeks of construction, the team performed a complete renovation to the Lassiter Student Center featuring a dining hall, open-concept kitchen, coffee shop, and convenience market.

Fuquay Varina High School

Designing a new kitchen, serving area, and kiosk for a high school with 2,230 students required meticulous focus on efficiency, functionality, and space planning. This layout optimized workflow to accommodate the substantial volume of meals needed for a large student population. We put a lot of thought into space planning to facilitate a smooth flow from food preparation to cooking and serving, minimizing congestion and optimizing productivity. Our design provided functionality, safety, and the ability to handle high food production demands while maintaining a comfortable and organized workspace for the kitchen staff.

Johnson County Detention Center

Designing a commercial kitchen and laundry for a detention facility demands careful consideration of security, efficiency, and scale. Our plans optimize the flow of food preparation, cooking, and serving to meet the dietary needs of the detainee population efficiently while providing a secure space to meet the governing guidelines and regulations. We provide correctional layouts that prioritize safety, scalability, and functionality.

Cedarfield Main Café

The design renovation for this retirement community included updating the main kitchen’s existing buffet serving area to add cooking capability, multiple serving station options, a full-service bar and coffee counter, and a new take-out meal service and dessert prep area. Also included were plans for a new memory support kitchen and pantry, an activity serving kitchen, and a staff serving area. We prioritized accessibility and user-friendly features for all retirement projects, considering our residents’ diverse needs.

Billy Graham Evangelistic Association

As part of the Billy Graham Library Expansion project, we designed the dining hall, food-warming kitchen, and serving area. The layout was created for efficiency, allowing seamless workflow for the kitchen staff and the serving lines to facilitate easy access for customers while maintaining a visually appealing aesthetic.

Wendell Falls

The cafe provides coffee, espresso, draft/bottled beer, or wine “to-go,” sandwiches, salads, and other good bites! The Grab-n-Go includes premade sandwiches, salads, or bottled beverages after a good workout in the fitness center.

UNC School of the Arts

The design renovation for the Hanes Student Commons dining hall was a culinary transformation that promised students a dynamic and diverse dining experience. Embracing an all-you-care-to-eat concept, this renovated space now offers a full spectrum of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, catering to various tastes and dietary preferences. Notable additions include a Mongolian grill, where customizable stir-fry dishes come to life, and a wood-fired pizza oven that adds a touch of authenticity to the dining experience. The deli bar, salad bar, and other stations provide an array of fresh and flavorful choices. This design emphasizes functionality and aesthetics, creating an inviting and vibrant atmosphere that encourages social interaction.

Riverside Hospital

Major renovation and expansion of kitchen and serving area for dietary services at Riverside Regional Healthcare System’s flagship Hospital.

Green Square Daily Planet

Green Square was developed as a three-block, multi-use, sustainable, urban development to house the NC DENR headquarters and the NC Museum of Natural Sciences’ Nature Research Center. Both facilities are connected to the existing NC Museum of Natural Sciences by sky bridges creating a three-block long complex dedicated to research, discovery, education and regulatory enforcement of the State’s environment and natural resources. Foodesign designed a new full service cafe kitchen and bar for the science museum to serve a dining space (120 seats).

Zicks

Zick’s is the latest student food and lounge space in the center of campus. It is a favorite hangout for students, faculty, and staff, located on the first floor and basement levels of Poteat Residence Hall. The menu includes pizzas, wings, salads, sodas, wine and beer.

The two-story space has lounge seating, several large television screens, a pool, and foosball tables. Zick’s is a great place to unwind and hang with friends while staying on campus.

The renovation included removing the existing post office with two floors of student housing above the restaurant and lounge space.
